Protocol for Mother of the Bride Dresses

One of the most important days in the life of any woman is her wedding day. Lots need to be done – the planning, fixing the venue, preparing the guest list, and more. But no less critical is it for the mothers of the bride who too have to start preparing months in advance, especially what she should wear for the great day.

Simple as it may sound, there are few protocols to follow before choosing from a range of formal mother of the bride dresses.

The first is the type of dress to wear. In the past, most mothers of the bride chose to wear age-appropriate and matronly dresses. Not anymore. To follow the latest trends is in now and the only important is the comfort levels. The most common and traditional formal mother of the bride dresses are gowns that reach the ankle.

But when selecting one, make sure that the material is soft and easy on the skin. You might have to wear the gown throughout the day and being comfortable should be your priority.

The next aspect is the color of the formal mother of the bride dresses and you should consult your daughter on this issue. She and the groom might have fixed plans regarding the theme for the wedding and you have to adhere to it. But whatever might be your choice, do not wear white or cream or any other color that matches that of your daughter’s dress. But you can wear a different shade. If she wears pale blue, you can opt for a darker shade. The point is not to take the attention away from her.
