Dress Code for Your Daughter’s Wedding

What should you wear on your daughter’s wedding that will make you stand out as the mother of the bride? Wearing age-appropriate dresses in subdued pastel shades is no more the fashion and mothers of the bride are now more fashionable and trendy than ever before.

However, when selecting mother of the bride dresses ensure that you do not wear a scene-stealer. It is your daughter’s great day and attention should not be diverted from her. Further, choose the dress well in advance. Traditionally, the mother of the bride gets to select the dress first and then inform the details to the mother of the groom. Hence, make sure that both of you have adequate time for alterations and fittings.

There is nothing specific to choose from mother of the bride dresses. Wear anything that takes your fancy – from formal gowns to long or short dresses. Even a skirt-and-jacket ensemble will do. Here too, discuss the length of the dress with the mother of the groom. Both the dresses need not be of the same length but will add a harmonious feel to the wedding photographs of it is so. But consult your daughter and find out if she and the groom have a specific wedding theme in mind that you have to follow.

There is no particular color for mother of the bride dresses. But the dress code dictates that it should not be similar to that worn by the bride or the bridesmaids. You can of course have the same basic color. For example, if they wear light blue, you can wear dark blue.

Keep these aspects in mind when choosing mother of the bride dresses.
