What should the mother of the bride wear to the wedding? Barring few traditional concerns, the answer is ANYTHING. Gone are the times when the mother of the bride had to look matronly in plus size dresses in light pastel colors. Today being trendy and fashionable is the norm even for mothers of the bride though wearing age-appropriate dresses is always advisable. However, have a talk with your daughter about the theme of the wedding and the color code if any decided by her and the groom.


Here is a guide to selecting mother of the bride dresses.  

·    If you have a matronly figure as most mothers of the bride do, your main concern should be the fabric while choosing from plus size mother of the bride dresses. Heavy fabric will hide the flabby areas but then keep the comfort levels in mind too. You have to move around and maybe dance too which you should be able to do with ease. Go through a trial walk at the dress shop wearing the intended outfit.  

·    Do not choose a color that is similar or even close to the bride or the bridesmaid dresses. You will not stand out in the crowd. Try different color variations, all the while keeping the wedding theme and color code in mind.

·      There is no rule of thumb on the length of the wedding dress. But mothers of the bride and the groom often wear the same length to create a harmonious look in the wedding photographs.
